Mama Advice Needed!

Ok, I know you all love to give advice so let me hear it! I am going to put together an essentials kit to give to my best friend at her baby shower! I may do essentials for mom and new baby or maybe just for mom. I am thinking about all of the things I wish I would have had the first week or did have and was soooooooooooo grateful for! Here are some of my thoughts: Mama Kit- Breastfeeding book, maybe the Vaccine book by Dr. Sears, Lanosil (not sure it's spelled right) disposible breast pads and lanolin, Tucks pads, Dermoplast, chocolate........ and for the baby (some gowns and ???) So what do you think? What are things that you are thankful you had on hand when you got home from the hospital or what things do you wish you would have had? Let's hear it ladies!

Not that I've ever HAD a baby, but since nobody else is responding, I figured I would!

cocoa butter
hand lotion
journal
a mixed CD of relaxing songs

That's all I can think of right now! I always recommend Alison Krauss for relaxation. ;)

i had a "diapers to go" basket for the living room so i didn't have to get up (painfully) off the couch those first few days to change the diaper every half hour. it was like a caddy with 8-10 diapers, some wipes, desitin, plastic grocery bags to wrap the dirties in. it sounds like a little thing but this was a lifesaver that first week!

Well, if she is planning to breastfeed, which it sounds like she is...here is my list of must-haves...

1. Meals
2. Diapers/Wipes
3. Breast Pads, Nursing Gown/Shirt, Constant Reassurance...
4. Tucks...he..he..
5. Pads for her (I seemed to run out sooner than I thought I would and John didn't want to go buy more...)
6. Chocolate is a must!
7. Help with Baby Announcement Cards
8. Help with errands
9. More Food, LOL!
10. A friend to call anytime day or night with "dumb" new mommy questions.

Ok. I know some of those won't fit into a basket really, but a new mama needs all fo those things! A Breastfeeidng book is great, but probably won't get read in the first week. You are so sweet and thoughtful! Good Luck making your basket. Let us know how it turns out.

mrs. sara-- you have the choice between pooper pads or...drumroll...not pooping at all that first week. THAT'S nice. poor liz's nice scrapbooking blog will turn into a litany of post-labor poop stories if we're not carefull, hee-hee

Ahhh......the things they don't tell you about bearing children! Sometimes I think I would like to be prepared for certain things and other things I think it is just best to find out as you get there!

Liz said...

I know people always say this but.... It really is all worth it! The things mamas do for their children! Having a child sure makes you have a new sense of appreciation for your own mom!

Whew, sounds exciting! I'd choose no pooping at all, because someone I know said it hurts SO bad to poop when you're torn. Eek! :D

Yeah, I was pretty scared about the whole pooping thing, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. I was just really sore in general!
